DESCRIPTION: I created this painting because I wanted to convey my desire for a life filled with a greater abundance of innocence. I understand that our pain is what is needed in order for us to grow empathetically as human beings, however I also believe that too much of it can hinder our general optimism and sense of identity. Much of our pain is self-induced through poor decision making, but that’s not the pain I'm referring to in this painting. I am speaking about the pain that stems from our genetic dispositions in regards to such illnesses as clinical depression, anxiety disorders, and severe mood fluctuations.

Some of us suffer to the point where empathy doesn’t come into the equation. One can only know empathy if they have been through the same pain, because if they haven’t then they are only able to offer sympathy. This painting refers to a 9-year old boy in a hospital room because he can’t see the color in life do to such heavy depression. It’s this pain I speak of. I wanted to create a painting that was gentle and soft on the eyes. The silhouettes in this painting are offering love and peace through innocent imagination. I used baby blue colors and flowers to represent symbol of gentleness. My desire was to create a visual experience that felt like a natural XANAX
