DESCRIPTION: I created this painting because I wanted to convey the different perceptions that take place regarding the role of parenting. The abstract eye shaped designs in the painting represent the way society looks at each individual parent when they are in public with their children. The eyes also represent the way the child views their parents and their own childhood. Lastly, the eyes represent the way the parent views their own responsibility as a parent and what their children’s environment should look. I painted images of puzzle pieces, pirate boats, and toy planes to represent the kind of playfulness and imagination that I as a parent try to place in my own children’s experience. The way we raise our children determines the way in which they will see and approach the world. We have the ultimate power as their guardians and protectors to instill in them a sense of gentleness and imagination. The best chapters of my life have been the ones I've spent with my children. For me, being around them is the closest I get to my understanding of Love and God.
