Title: The Commute
8FT x 2FT Painting-Oil & Acrylic- Custom Frame Built To Hold Tea Light Candles
Currently Available For Purchase
DESCRIPTION: I created this painting because I wanted to convey the feeling of transportation and movement that takes place while living in a city or metropolitan area. I made this piece of art as a functional abstract painting. I built the frame so that tea light candles could be slid in between each of the canvasses in the frame in order to give it a useful aspect. I used oil, acrylic, oil marker, and spray paint as my mediums. I’ve lived in many of the largest cities in the U.S.A., like: N.Y.C., L.A., Boston, Louisville, Oakland/San Fran, D.C…and I’ve always had a love for city life and all that goes into getting from point A to point B.
I chose to use deep maroons and glossy reds in order to give the movement a pulse. I used some copper toned paints to give the painting a rich personification of heritage. I chose to paint random squares and rectangles like the sky, which represents the windows or small pockets of space that are found between the buildings in a city. The griddish look represents the train or bus routes that weave in and out of the city. My goal was to create a modern abstract and techy feel to what it's like to live in an urban environment.
