Description: I created this painting because I wanted to convey my belief regarding the role of a loving and nurturing parent. I am a proud parent, maybe even the proudest ever in the history of parents. When our children’s feelings and self-esteem are hurt by the outside world, it’s our responsibility as their protectors to Hold Them, Help Them, and Heal Them.We must be the ones who talk with them and create an environment that makes them feel comfortable with opening up about their pain. We must talk about our own experiences with pain and tell them what it was like for us, so that they don’t feel so alone. I believe the biggest and most important type of protection we can give to our children is establishing a gentle and easy environment that promotes authentic and supportive communication.
We are never going to be able to shield them from all the pain in this world, but we can teach them healthy ways to cope with it when it arrives on their doorstep. I painted this picture because I wanted to show what our children might feel like in the inside after they have been hurt by the world. They are internally holding out their broken heart waiting for someone to help and show them how to put it back together. In my opinion there is nothing more gratifying then doing this for them. It’s the purest and most crucial expression of intimacy that a parent will ever experience.
